Charlotte Bronte, an autograph letter, signed, to Mrs Grant at Oxenhope notifying her that her intended visit in the afternoon will have to be cancelled because of 'a summons to go from home on Monday' which obliges her to be 'a little busy' she writes because she does not want Mrs Grant to stay at home on a fine day and miss a walk because of false expectation of her coming, she expresses the hope that her little boy's better, gives her kind regards to Mr Grant and notes 'my father preached yesterday and twice on Sunday and felt no bad effects from the exertion which is proof I trust, that he is gaining strength', on a single folded sheet, 7ins x 8 and 7/8ins overall, some spotting, minor weaknesses and folds. Note: Charlotte Bronte's correspondent here is the wife of the Reverend Joseph Brett Grant who was curate at Haworth from October 1844 to May 1845, when he became encumbent at Oxenhope, among other things Grant assisted the Reverent A.B. Nicholls in the funeral service for Branwell Bronte in 1848 and the Grants were among the guests who attended the wedding breakfast for Charlotte and Nicholls in June 1854, included in the lot are a carte de visite of Charlotte Bronte (Mrs Arthur B. Nicholls), (corner torn), contemporary carte de visite size studio photographs of her and of her father, the Reverend Patrick Bronte and a black edged in memoriam card for her (worn)
